Australasian
Distinguished Doctoral Dissertation - 2009
As is usually the case, CORE will
present an award
for the "best" PhD thesis in our field, finalised during the year.
There are two panels who judge the award, on a geographical
basis, so that judges do not deal with theses from their own
state.
If you have a candidate who you think
is suitable, please
send FOUR hard (paper) copies of their thesis to
Professor David Abramson
Associate Director - Monash
e-Research Centre (MERC)
Faculty of Information Technology
Monash University
Clayton, Vic, 3800 .
and ONE soft copy to to
david.abramson - at -
infotech.monash.edu.au
Constraints :
- at most one candidate per department
- the candidate need not have graduated, but University's
Academic
Board or equivalent body must have determined during 2008 that the
degree be awarded (if such a determination is expected during December
2008 the thesis
may be provisionally nominated)
- the copies of the thesis may be in temporary bindings
If possible, it is helpful to the
panels to have a copy of
examiners' comments on the thesis.
This is a chance for us to honour
one of our number who
has made a significant contribution to our field.
The cut-off date for submission is
November 30th, 2008.
Judging will be finalised before Australasian Computer Science Week in
2009 at which the award will be presented.
The cut-off date will be strictly
enforced to give the panel sufficient
time to read the submissions.
Best wishes,
David.
